The international adoption process is a long paper-intense and volatile process. But it can be more manageable when it is broken into smaller chunks. There are essential three (3) stages:
1. Pre-approval process
This is a lot of notarized papers, police checks, references (any volunteers?), and includes a social workers approval of our home and parenting skills. At this point we are "approved" to adopt by American standards.
We are HERE - and expect to be here for at a minimum 2-3 more months.
2. The Dossier process
The Dossier is a "packet" of information. Including much of the paperwork and the approvals we received in step #1. We will send this to our Ukrainian facilitator ("K") and he will translate into native language and submit it on our behalf. Once "approved" to adopt by Ukrainian standards, we wait to get assigned a court date.
3. Travel and Court process
There are actually two court dates. The first we will both be present for and this is the "big" one. Than anywhere from 2-4 weeks later there is a follow-up court date. Only one of us is required to stay for this. And than we will be home with our boys :-)
